Exposure, Connection, Transformation was the title of Lesley's solo exhibition that took place at St Martin’s Arts at the church of St Martin in the Bullring in Birmingham during August and September 2007. This exhibition, which consists of three large pieces up t0 1.5m in height, was produced especially for the arts centre and was an extension of her work based on coastal landscape and the human form. Since beginning this body of work three years ago, Lesley’s work has increased in scale, which has been particularly challenging. She continues to use the character of the landscape to express both the fragility and fortitude of the human spirit.

In this exhibition, Lesley used interacting forms to suggest relationship between God and man. The strong connection that exists between the forms is described by reference to coastal landscape – a place where in spite of the dramatic effects of exposure there is permanence and solidity.  The ‘human’ element of the work is represented by a fragmented human face, which suggests the fragility of the human condition – an incompleteness that can only be made whole through relationship.

Through her work, Lesley aims to describe a process of exposure and connection leading to transformation.
